2011 Jaguar C-X75 Review

For 75 years, Jaguar has been responsible for some of the most emblematic of the road and the design of the racing car has ever seen. Calling names will be familiar to all: XK120, Type C, D-Type, XJ13, E-Type, XJ220. To this list can now be added Concept Jaguar C-X75, celebrating three-quarters of a century of beautiful, fast Jaguar concept being the fastest and most beautiful of all.

Jaguar is an award-winning portfolio of models of the current XK, the XF and XJ models, and the C-X75 brand strengthening design approach to product development. Created led by Ian Callum, Design Director, the concept is paving the way towards a more exciting design language, which combines a beautiful contemporary design worldwide research and planning.

The fans will recognize elements of the past, Jaguar Jaguar C-X75 concept, but should not look back but forward. C-X75 designers stayed true to the Jaguar philosophy of designing a long-term natural, flowing lines and simple, elegant forms. When you have found inspiration from the past was an innovative and functional design elements, such as race cars in 1950 by type C and D-type and a unique 1966 XJ13 Le Mans Prototype - ". Perhaps the most beautiful Jaguars ever made" Callum car described as

XJ13 acted as a testing ground for a new engine, Jaguar C-X75 Concept also offers a positive and inspiring way to overcome the challenges of environmental concerns. Performance cars have always looked for performance by weight, agility and dynamism, which also benefit the economy. Using new combinations of technology, C-X75 supercar outlines the future of Jaguar and its commitment to produce beautiful fast cars powered by renewable means.

Exterior design

"C-X75 is a Jaguar should be. He has remarkable ease and grace, but at the same time, the excitement and power of a true supercar. No doubt, this is as close to a form of art as a pure concept can sheep, and we believe it is a fitting tribute to 75 years of iconic Jaguar. "Ian Callum, Design Director of Jaguar Cars

Completed Jetstream Silver, Jaguar C-X75 concept beautifully proportioned, sculpted lines and powerful stance have been created, in the words of Julian Thomson, Deputy Director of Design and Director of Advanced Design Studio Jaguar, to "pull the same emotional chord as classic Jaguars such as the type-D and XJ13 corridors. "

Jaguar C-X75 concept, lends more than just a stylish exterior design, however, previous vintage cars were the same respect for the purity of their design needs. C-X75 is designed to express the future of luxury car manufacturers such as Jaguar. Prove that you can keep the core brand values and offers the same emission-free motoring for a long time, as well as gamma-enhancement techniques, which are electric cars much more convenient.

Purity aerodynamic

Shorter, thinner and smaller than the current supercar crops, its appearance is about pure performance, a simple frame around the central display wheel. Thanks to the efficiency of the packaging, the lack of a traditional piston engine, the car designers had great freedom of positioning of mechanical components and creating the most elegant design package available. This car is the most perfect proportion and balance of the possible compact cabin is centrally located between the wheel arches dramatically. Lines of a super car is a determined and agile, which refers to the sense of movement and posture.

Aerodynamics is a key factor in the design of a super car can accelerate and speed of over 320kph (200 mph). However, as Thomson explains, the designers were not willing to sacrifice the beauty of the car when it came to create downforce and stability at high speeds, "because we want this to be one of the finest Jaguar ever, we have adopted a much more elegant Concept Jaguar C-X75, aerodynamics, and enjoy the benefits of electric transmission. "

Using a Venturi chassis and exhaust directional control kept the car as stylish, compact and low as possible while generating huge amounts of grip and support. In fact, the air movement in itself was a driving principle behind many of the design elements were incorporated into the body. Principal designer Matt Beavan reveals how the air flow through the turbines have helped shape the surface of the car itself:. "We wanted to emphasize how the air makes its way not only for the car, but is also channeled into the air box back when operating at 80 000 rpm, each gas turbine requires 25,000 liters of air per minute This means we need to input a series of carefully honed. "

The two beautifully carved intake mounted on aluminum frame has a striking two-tone finish with polished inner surfaces highlight functionality. Above them are two catches, supply cold air cooling system separate from the turbine.

The mill is also a theme echoed in the handsome alloy wheels that seem to have been cut from a single block of aluminum with a clean design inspired by the fan blades of the engines themselves. The tires are custom made by Pirelli and bold asymmetrical tread wear indicator green F1 runs the perimeter of the deck.

Forward-hinged doors are open with the sense of touch technology, Jaguar, always outwards and upwards good access to the cockpit. If you want to maintain the purity of the side profile, the design replaces the conventional exterior mirrors with cameras is that it is a small Tailfin echo of the D-Type - The images are displayed on screens inside. Behind the doors, fuel filler cap to sit on both sides of the cabin - a double tank system, bearing in mind the original XJ6 - which is the C-X75 to use the turbines from the fuel tank and a plug-in charging points.

The eye is drawn in the watertight compartment which houses the gas turbines and micro beautiful double reinforcement structure that supports them. Exposed through the rear window - a bit like the XJ13 - the turbines are presented for outstanding Texalium elegant aluminum and fabric lining of the engine compartment.

The turbine's compact size allows designers more freedom in the rear of the car, which is how the back edge of the wing of an airplane. It is both functional - Setting and beautiful, with a line of strong and dramatic, full thin LED tail lights - including the wing Venturi.

Inside

Jaguar has a long tradition of using the best materials to create a luxurious cabin cosseting, which allows the driver to concentrate on the driving experience, culminating in winning the current XJ. With C-X75, Jaguar leather mixed perfectly with innovative materials and finishes to create an elegant interior adapted and driver-focused, defined and inspired by the technology that drives this supercar sustainability.

Double micro-turbines, provided great inspiration when designing the interior design. Turbines require huge amounts of air, the driver and the passenger is in the center of calm in this storm. The soft shapes and surfaces reflect the changes in airflow from the cabin, are invisible and not inside, in the channels around.

The seats are fixed on the back wall, which is part of the airbox feeding the turbines, the integration of driver and passenger, not only in structure but also the function of the car. Beautifully shaped aluminum beam directs the air in the turbines, which are supported by hooks in a spiral that seems to issue a direct result of the seat headrests. "

Driver-focused cockpit

Although Jaguar has always been a cottage in a quiet, comfortable sanctuaries for passengers, their attention remained focused on the driver. Concept Jaguar C-X75 takes this commitment to its logical conclusion by making the driver as close as possible to the center of the car. As a result, the tailors cab drivers to fully and strictly. Lever, steering wheel and dash towards the driver, to reveal a well-polished aluminum binnacle surround sound. Pedal is fully adjustable to create the perfect driving position.

The sense of opportunity and experience of the operator generated by C-X75 is unmatched. Electro-luminescent micro-cables and use LED candles to create two very different environments in the cockpit, so it feels incredibly dramatic and emphasize the width of the car. As the driver approaches the vehicle, a bright ring of light blue over phosphorus present the extreme level, the shape of the car leading the eye around the monocoque tub and bedroom turbine.

When the driver moves to the illumination of electroluminescent wire is replaced by blue phosphor emitting diodes reduces the occupants sit in the cockpit. The soft lighting of interior doors and wall cavities creates transparency inspired structures exposed to light aircraft and Bowers & Wilkins speakers behind panels nano micromesh. Additional LED behind the dashboard and the turbines for the two facilities seem to "float" in the structure of the car.

The car is started using a switch mounted on the air affects the Control Panel. Twin turbo needles shows a scan of the dramatic features around the edge of the main and back gages.

When driving in a cottage character mode change track again - with a model of a fighter combat mode. Mate Jaguar touch screen and all the stealth moves to the environment of the cockpit, the lighting is dimmed to minimize driver distraction. Electro-luminescent wire now forms a blade of blue light where the driver's seat and controls.

The lighting is not the only function that gives a sense of theater and the uniqueness of the experience of the management of Jaguar C-X75 Concept. The gear selector is designed in a fighter jet accelerator and includes a manual control of the turbines so they can run continuously for maximum cargo.

Unique materials

A unique, durable performance supercar, the C-X75 to use materials that reflect the design and ideals. Luxurious cream ceramic semi-aniline leather dashboard has been chosen to complete the purity of polished aluminum. Instead, more technical full-aniline was used in Storm Grey leather seats. Leather their history of resistance, which derives from the Scottish Bridge of Weir, a manufacturer of modern and eco-efficiency of the skin in the world.

To highlight the main driver of the cockpit instrument interfaces, shifter and some areas of the steering wheel is covered with a soft neoprene texture to the touch. This moldable material has allowed designers to shape the soft, fluid surfaces surrounding the technical equipment. The leading edges of the instrument Binnacle have a satin finish, while farther the material covered in the grain subtly shaped logo "patch" of the traditional Jaguar.

Reflects work surfaces polished on the outside of the car, air conditioning vents also equipped with a finish, although this time it's reversed, with mirror finish exterior surfaces and steam blasted matte inside. Inside the ventilation openings can be found a honeycomb aluminum similar to that used in the aerospace industry.

Innovation

"This is reminiscent of a showcase for the 75-year tradition of performance, the Jaguar C-X75 Concept also demonstrates Jaguar's commitment to develop world-class technical solutions to the challenges of the future of automotive development. Supercar shows that Jaguar will continue to build beautiful fast cars creates a performance in a sustainable way. " Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar Cars

The Jaguar C-X75 is a demonstration of high performance for future technologies and innovation. The 330kph (205 mph) all-wheel drive supercar is capable of reaching 100 km (62 mph) from rest in 3.4 seconds with zero tailpipe emissions when used in urban areas. Even by extending line mode, emits only 28 grams of CO2 per kilometer, with its ultra-efficient micro-gas turbines that provide free four 145kW (195bhp) electric motors.

A plug-in six-hour charge of lithium ion batteries can power a range of only 110 km (68 miles). However, as a Range-extended electric vehicle (EV-RE), the Jaguar C-X75 concept eliminates the fear of autonomy currently prevent the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. The innovative twin turbine can charge the car batteries on the fly, allowing the sports car to travel 900 km (560 miles) between fill-ups or track mode, automatically provide the additional power directly to electric motors allow the car to 330kph (205 mph).

By creating the C-X75, Jaguar, under the government-sponsored Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has worked closely with other UK companies, each of them is at the forefront of their field. The TSB is an organization that brings together public companies in a wide range of innovation programs with a focus on sustainability. Jaguar partners in this project are Bladon Jets, manufacturers of micro-gas turbine and generator units that provide switched reluctance RS.

The decision to use technology originally developed for aerospace applications has proven to Britain and the Jaguar heritage in this area. Born in Coventry, near the place of what would become the Browns Lane factory, historical Jaguar, Sir Frank Whittle is credited with the development of a jet engine gas turbine. Whittle is the concept has been refined by Bladon Jets provider in the covenant, the powertrain is actually used by the Jaguar C-X75.

Jaguar even aviation heritage, a number of large Jaguars of the past - Type C, D and Type E-Type - has been shaped by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer. Fly-inspired technology has also led to the development of framework aluminum frame space around which the first Le Mans-winning Jaguar was built, the same technique used today in the Jaguar C-X75 Concept.

The Jaguar C-X75 Concept Bowers & Wilkins, the exclusive provider of premium audio systems for Jaguar, explored the future sound technologies to develop a product that offers superior audio quality, while keeping power requirements extremely low.

Advanced lightweight aluminum construction

Jaguar Experience in the use of aluminum was more than 50 years in the first XK120, through lightly X350 E-Types and pioneer of the new XK and XJ 2010. With this new creation that Jaguar fully aware of the performance benefits of lightweight metal, agility, economy and durability in a luxury car, building a lead of its rivals have yet to close.

The C-X75, of course, follows the same construction techniques with an extruded aluminum chassis and aerospace-inspired bonded clad in panels of the same material, which is much lighter than the current supercar. This not only saves weight, which is crucial in a car with extreme performance envelope, but aluminum is one of the most easily recyclable metals, promotes sustainability concept Jaguar C-X75 and speed. Like the current XJ, 50 percent of the super structure is made of recycled aluminum.

Active Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics has always been an important part of the legendary designer Malcolm Sayer Jaguar design elevating the art form as the XJ13 cars, the prototype, which draws from the C-X75.

Now Jaguar is to reduce the drag coefficient of their upcoming models to increase fuel efficiency. The Jaguar C-X75 concept presented the additional challenge of managing the large volume of air required by the turbines. To achieve this active aerodynamics were used for the first time in a Jaguar.

Opening the front grille and vents brake when necessary, the design of Jaguar have dramatically increased aerodynamic efficiency. At every corner in the back surfaces of the vertical automatic test car delivered at speeds greater than the airflow directly behind the rear wheels for stability and efficiency.

The rear diffuser from carbon fiber, a crucial element in the direction of airflow under the car and create downforce includes an asset that lowers automatically as speed increases. Fins on the exhaust ports then change the direction of flow of gas to further increase the efficiency of the Venturi tunnel.

Propulsion system

Jaguar has made great efforts to develop future generations of cars that minimize their environmental impact. Jaguar aims to reduce its emissions of carbon dioxide per quarter over the next five years, and as a company £ 800 invested in the search for innovative solutions to the challenges of future sustainability.

C-X75 is able to progress purely electric, zero emissions from space 110 km (68 miles) is a six-hour domestic plug-ins. Unlike traditional electric cars, enjoy this super-car does not stop there. Innovative, lightweight micro-gas turbines are able to load quickly and effectively the lithium-ion battery, the car theoretical range of 900 km (560 miles) and can also provide additional power directly to the engine automatically when the track mode.

This is a big area of expansion is the result of Jaguar Research Engineers use a clean sheet approach to the question of the future take care of super cars. Jaguar C-X75 Concept turns to the latest developments in a piece of British avant-garde technology: a gas turbine.

Bladon Jets British engineering firm has been a recent advance in the production of multi-stage axial compressor - the technology used in all large gas turbines - a miniature scale and very high tolerances. This increased compression efficiency of the micro-gas turbines to the point where it can be considered a real source of energy. Each micro-gas turbine weighs only 35 kg and produces 70 kilowatts of power at a constant 80,000 rpm.

Since the exhaust gases are part of the aero package on, the Jaguar has been specializing in used zirconia-molybdenum coating. This advanced heat-resistant coating is regularly used in Formula One cars, and applied to plasma spray the diffuser in carbon fiber to protect it from the exhaust.

Turbines offers a number of advantages over a piston range extends when you turn the generators. With fewer moving parts and air bags, the turbines do not require lubrication systems and water cooling, all of which offer considerable weight saving advantages. They can also run on a variety of fuels including diesel, CNG and LPG.

Turbines reach their optimal operating speed and temperature on the second, and so can be used in short bursts to complete the batteries without sacrificing fuel consumption or life cycle. Coupled with two switched reluctance generators provided by the SR-drive turbines operate either in sequence or together, depending on energy prices should quickly and effectively charge the batteries - or to supply power directly to electric motors - as dictated the propulsion system of monitoring.

Battery technology is currently the main limiting factor in the development of high performance electric vehicles with a realistic range. Jaguar engineers are currently conducting research with the main suppliers of batteries in the next generation of cells able to find the best compromise between energy density and power. The batteries used in the C-X75 is a composite state-of-the-art, which offers significant advantages in terms of weight, life cycle, energy density and safety.

Power and control

The energy created by the turbines, and stored in batteries are delivered by road, four independent electric motors. Using a single Motors has the advantages of weight saving and distribution, packaging and efficiency. Each engine weighs only 50 kg, but produces 145kW (195bhp) of power and torque is an incredible total of 1600nm (£ 1180 ft).

Because each wheel is driven by an electric motor, the Jaguar C-X75 concept is to all four wheels - with all the advantages for traction, grip and security that means - without the inconvenience of the weight of a purely mechanical September -up. Inherent in this power train is the ability of two vectors independently to each wheel through the speed range. This offers potential advantages in terms of stability and control, creating tension at infinity and the stability control system instantly adjustable.

The electric motors also produces maximum torque from zero rpm, which makes the power curve is a traditional thing of the past. Indeed, such a power C-X75 Jaguar's engineers have had to artificially limit the couple off to improve the handling of the car. Performance available in the middle class is really amazing. Jaguar C-X75 Concept accelerates from 80 145kph (50-90 mph) in just 2.3 seconds. The quarter mile sprint in 10.3 seconds at a terminal velocity of 251kph (156 mph) and acceleration peaks at 0.88G.

This extraordinary performance demands equally impressive brakes. Jaguar has already demonstrated the system to the task. C-X75 is equipped with a supercharged XFR brakes are used, which in 2009 became the fastest Jaguar ever reach 363kph (226 mph) at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. In this application, the technology of four-wheel regenerative braking to recharge the batteries while driving. 380 mm ventilated discs front and 345 mm polished alloy wheels are raised 9:22 p.m. inches respectively.

Interior Innovation

The driver focused interior Jaguar C-X75 Concept is a letter of intent from Jaguar, using the latest technology, which is perfectly integrated into the machine to improve the driving experience. When you create a C-X75, Jaguar has established relationships with other British companies, who share the philosophy of design and purity of design.

Fingertip control information

As for the new XJ, traditional analog instruments have been replaced by a high resolution TFT-LCD for three man-machine interface (HMI) in the cockpit.

The information on the main screen engine is located in the instrument cabin. Needles floating on the periphery of the hood and double rod outer edge to display the status and regime of the two turbines. The amount of information that can be viewed need for a new graphical interface. The design team combines the design of the instrument in the new XJ saloon with those of the fighter jets to create virtual 3D "gimbal" around which the envelope of the indicators and their time to provide the updated status.

Information about the speed, acceleration, energy production, the use of the aerodynamics of active power and the state is selected using paddles mounted on the roll of the wheel to control the driver reach all the complex systems the car.

A secondary touchscreen "Jaguar Co-Pilot" in the center of the dashboard is angled toward the driver and makes a prediction function, eliminating the superfluous information and allows the driver to concentrate on the task at hand. As its name suggests, this transparently manages the relationship between car and driver. In tune with technology such as smart phones such as calendars, will be recognized that the driver must attend a track in Le Mans and not only to calculate a route, but also suggest the activation of high-performance mode, when the circuit itself. Once accepted by the driver, this information transparently to the display of the panels of the main cabin.

Two displays works in three modes:

Standard Mode - The portion on the left shows speed, navigation information is displayed in the center of the span and time on the dial to the right. Co-Pilot screen is used for economy and emissions data.

Track Mode - change the dial to the right to display the available power, while the needles around Binnacle displays the status of the turbine. Co-Pilot display changes to show the results and data knees.

Heritage - Both monitors will change the exact recreations of classic D-type instruments, shows how the owners can download their own custom interfaces.

A third, smaller screen mounted low in the center console displays speed information.

Bremont Watches

The need for information screens to display information clearly led to the timeless with Bremont, a British company creating independent fine mechanical watches are assembled by hand in their studio in Switzerland. Its aviation-inspired designs and commitment to engineering excellence has seen the company to quickly establish themselves in a world of authentic luxury.

Jaguar's designers have taken style elements from the MB2 see Bremont in creating graphs of time elements related to the operator. The result is a perfect combination of warmth and traditional Jaguar purity and accuracy.

Bremont also produced a unique watch that can be installed in the turbine-inspired by the holder in the center console. The mechanism of the clock used for the forces of acceleration and braking of the car to keep it wound.

Relations Bremont has inspired another part of the design. The company produces a clock, MB1, exclusively for those who have had their lives saved by a Martin-Baker ejection seat. To date, the British developed security system has saved over 7000 people. In recognition of this, managing the release of internal doors Concept Jaguar C-X75 is crafted from aircraft quality aluminum and mounted on the bottom of the seat, in the same situation as a jet fighter ejection handles.

Surround Sound

Jaguar has asked its existing partners in the automotive experts entertainment, Bowers & Wilkins audio, creating a revolutionary sound system that reveals how audio technologies are expected to evolve.

The result was an innovative system that uses dozens of small moving coil transducers arranged in a thin cell structure that allows them to line the doors and the rear bulkhead. Cases, magnets and coils are constructed from nanometer, and met with B & W's own material polycrystalline diamond films, the best available. A series of small speakers literally surrounding the driver and passenger sounds strong and all embracing, but the small size also means the power consumption of the system and is considered very low.

This system also allowed the development of active noise canceling technology which separates the interior of noise produced by wind turbines and create a peaceful, luxurious cocoon allows the driver to concentrate on the pleasure lies in driving a Jaguar. Similar technology can be used to cancel noise transmitted to the outside world by the operation of the turbine.
