2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Review

The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 its debut at the Chicago Auto Show 2011. This is the Camaro the best car make and most technically advanced ever developed in its category. The new ZL1 continues the momentum of the Camaro, which prompted a whole new area of technology for peak performance. Is expected to launch in early 2012.

Motivated by a supercharged V-8 engine producing an estimated 550 horsepower (410 kW), the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the fastest ever offered by Chevrolet Camaro. And above all the power, the ZL1 features technologically advanced and highly developed chassis and suspension that allows it to offer balanced, ready to track the handling and stopping power to complement the high engine power. Rigorous development of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is underway, and official estimates of the capabilities of the car will be launched in late 2011, the test is about to end.

"ZL1 Camaro is in the high technology and design, and is a type of car that no one has brought this segment before," said Rick Scheidt, Chevrolet marketing vice president. "This is the most technically advanced Camaro ever, so we chose a name from the most elite and exclusive Camaro in history."

The name is derived from the ZL1 engine running all-aluminum of the same name that was developed in 1960 and installed in the end of a handful of regular production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built with the engine, but they have achieved mythical status among fans because they represented the culmination of the performance Camaro - until now. 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to model is designed to be a great step forward for the Camaro, which brings a new level of performance for the segment.

A key objective in developing the car was to create something new - Camaro to achieve the best lap times on the road-racing circuits, and an excellent driving dynamics on the road. To achieve this, engineers have developed many of the existing systems, as well as the Camaro to include new technologies such as electric power steering, and Magnetic Ride Control, the world's fastest reaction suspension.

Camaro ZL1 design communicates and supports its mission performance. Instead of using decorative elements that are Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 visually distinct from other models of the Camaro with being vital for high capacities of the car.

"Everything about the design of the ZL1 is directly related to its technology and bass performance, such as aerodynamics," said Ed Welburn, vice president of Global Design. "The goal of the designers was to execute the function-oriented design beautifully carved forms, creating a massively powerful figure. Function becomes the aesthetic. The intention is a car that meets the attitude of the projects."

The main elements of the design of the ZL1 is a new front fascia and hood with air extractors designed together to create downforce for handling. The hood of the car includes a central section of the firm built in carbon fiber and manufactured in black satin. New frames, wide tires, 20-inch wheels and exhaust pipes represent the car's performance and power.

Technical Overview

Support the dynamics of the track and the street of the ZL1 is 6.2 liter supercharged LSA engine, resulting in an estimated 550 horsepower (410kW) and 550 lb.-ft. of torque (677 Nm) with features for the Camaro. Built on the legendary all-aluminum GM small-block V-8 architecture, LSA has an intercooled supercharger system, premium heat-resistant alloy aluminum cylinder heads and other details designed to ensure outstanding performance is delivered with delicacy and refinement. Components and design elements that contribute to the attainment of LSA include:

* Assembly balanced, lightweight alternative

* High-strength hypereutectic pistons

* The sixth-generation Eaton compressor rotors with four lobes

* Piston Oil Squirters.

Because the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 uses electric power steering, the engine is not equipped with a power steering pump on its traditional training system accessories. This improves performance because there is no engine power is used to turn a pulley steering pump.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a complete high-performance sports car, a Camaro not only with more power. Technical highlights include:

Transmission - The high performance manual Tremec TR-6060 six-speed is paired with the LSA engine. It is "MG9" version of the transmission with more torque. It is used with a dual-mass flywheel and twin-disc clutch for easy and smooth shift. A new short-throw switch turns the gear lever.

Exhaust - Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is equipped with a dual-mode exhaust that changes the sound level and character in response to engine speed. First used in the legendary Corvette, specially optimized for Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the system dual-mode exhaust give the car a distinctive sound.

Transmission - E 'with a revised crankshaft and stronger rear axle with a body of iron larger and stronger than cast differential, stronger and heavier axle limited slip differential. This patented system is designed to ensure that the ZL1 immense power comes smoothly to the ground.

Suspension - The suspension features fully revised set and the inclusion of segment-exclusive Magnetic Ride Control. System Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's Magnetic Ride will include driver-selectable modes (Tour and Sport) adapted to the driving style preferred. It uses the magneto-rheological science to produce shock absorption with the highest degree of precision that allows the body control potential optimized for excellent performance in everyday driving and track conditions. This technology appears in a small list of some of the most beautiful cars in the world of performance. Other chassis components have been redesigned to support high performance of the car limits. Rear stabilizer link bar drop has repositioned the outboard motor control groups. This makes the bar more effective at controlling body roll in turns, with a clear answer to the pilot's controls.

Brakes and steering - Camaro ZL1 advanced track compatible with the braking system, developed in collaboration with experts from Brembo. The large 14.6 inches (370 mm) front discs have two pieces of six-piston 14.4-inch (365 mm) rear rotors with four piston calipers. Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 marks the entry of a new direction for the electric Camaro. It has been developed to ensure precise control and feedback for the driver, with a greater variability of effort high-performance driving.

Exterior - the signature of the front fascia and hood ZL1 aluminum redesigned with a high carbon fiber insert. The front panel includes a front splitter and new vertical fog. The area includes fog lamps designed air intakes for brake cooling. The hood has exhaust fans mounted on the front that direct air precisely in the car. Visually, this middle section, the satin black carbon fiber, communicates high performance car designed as a visual contrast with the exterior color of the car. Functionally, the exhaust fan is a key element in the connection of air near the body, creating downforce. The central section of carbon fiber reduces the weight of the bell. High Intensity Discharge (HID) fog lights as standard. The rear of the car includes a diffuser and a wing, as well as the functional elements that improve the aerodynamics of the car.

Wheels and tires - New design 20-inch wheels are forged aluminum lighter than the 20-inch wheels used on the Camaro SS to be used with new Goodyear Supercar F2 bands designed specifically for Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Interior - ZL1 is suitable for high performance driving. The front seats have suede microfibre inserts. Other improvements include a redesigned steering wheel, aluminum pedals, Head-Up Display with display performance and unique "four-pack" system with an additional measure to boost output.

Production details

All exterior colors will be available with the ZL1 Camaro, but the black is the only interior color. The unique exterior is complimented with a black center section on the bonnet. Inside, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has heated leather seats with microfibre inserts embroidered logos on the front headrests ZL1. Microfiber cloth is repeated as an accent on the panel, adding a look inside richer. The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 include the same content as the current package and include the following 2SS new or unique features:

* Power driver and passenger seats six

* The unique instrument panel and door linings and the panel doorway ZL1-logo

* The steering wheel with Bluetooth

* Wireless USB and PDIM

* Boston Acoustics premium audio system

* Rear Parking Assist

* SYSTEM rearview camera (shown in rear view mirror).

Engineers have already driven the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 prototype extensively on the road demanding the U.S. and Germany, with final tests are carried out through the rest of the year 2011.
