The name is derived from the ZL1 engine running all-aluminum of the same name that was developed in 1960 and installed in the end of a handful of regular production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built with the engine, but they have achieved mythical status among fans because they represented the culmination of the performance Camaro - until now. 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to model is designed to be a great step forward for the Camaro, which brings a new level of performance for the segment.
A key objective in developing the car was to create something new - Camaro to achieve the best lap times on the road-racing circuits, and an excellent driving dynamics on the road. The main elements of the design of the ZL1 is a new front fascia and hood with air extractors designed together to create downforce for handling. The hood of the car includes a central section of the firm built in carbon fiber and manufactured in black satin. New frames, wide tires, 20-inch wheels and exhaust pipes represent the car's performance and power.

Technical Overview
Support the dynamics of the track and the street of the ZL1 is 6.2 liter supercharged LSA engine, resulting in an estimated 550 horsepower (410kW) and 550 lb.-ft. of torque (677 Nm) with features for the Camaro. Because the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 uses electric power steering, the engine is not equipped with a power steering pump on its traditional training system accessories. This improves performance because there is no engine power is used to turn a pulley steering pump.

Transmission - The high performance manual Tremec TR-6060 six-speed is paired with the LSA engine. It is "MG9" version of the transmission with more torque. It is used with a dual-mass flywheel and twin-disc clutch for easy and smooth shift. A new short-throw switch turns the gear lever.

Suspension - The suspension features fully revised set and the inclusion of segment-exclusive Magnetic Ride Control. Exterior - the signature of the front fascia and hood ZL1 aluminum redesigned with a high carbon fiber insert. The front panel includes a front splitter and new vertical fog. The area includes fog lamps designed air intakes for brake cooling. The hood has exhaust fans mounted on the front that direct air precisely in the car. Visually, this middle section, the satin black carbon fiber, communicates high performance car designed as a visual contrast with the exterior color of the car. Functionally, the exhaust fan is a key element in the connection of air near the body, creating downforce. The central section of carbon fiber reduces the weight of the bell.
